a vivid and continuous dream - March 6th, 2008

four points
1. Last night I dreamed about my grandfather. I don't know that I have ever had a dream about him. He is the only grandparent I ever met, we were not very close, and he passed away many years ago. And yet there he was in my dream. I was visiting him, he lived in an apartment somewhere. The only really vivid part of the dream was the sense of him being my grandpa. I didn't even have a clear vision of what he looked like.

2. Almost every day during my commute across the sound, I see something so spectacular or beautiful it puts a lump in my throat. Like, a wild seal swimming alongside the boat. Or a saturated band of rainbow plunging into west Seattle. Or a freighter as big as a building floating toward Tacoma, with Mt. Rainier rising behind it. Flocks of gulls escorting our way, flying so close to the windows I can see the webs of their feet tucked into their bellies. The other day as I rode home, the surface of the water was as soft and glossy as honey, and the sunset was postcard perfect. In contrast, my SF commute usually featured billboards, trash, and the misery of being crammed like sardines into a MUNI train.

3. We finally transfer ourselves and our cats into our new house tomorrow. We will probably take all weekend clearing my dad's house of our things. Next week, new furniture will begin to arrive. I really want all of this to be done. I realized recently that six months of limbo and homelessness has probably taken a physical toll on me. It was great having a free place to live, but we basically had no place to put any of our stuff, we were living out of suitcases. I missed my crap! My all-clad pans! My beautiful dishes! My big comfy sofa! Oh, how I missed it.

4. The cats are going to spaz out all night tomorrow, and poor Simon has the sneezes.
