Today was grey and lovely. We did a bit o' housework and then went downtown for coffee. Stopped at the grocery on the way home to get food, tonight I am making tofu veggie stir fry. I am going to make brown rice to go with it and hopefully Brian won't complain too much. I *heart* brown rice.

Thanks to living in close quarters with a sick husband, I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and stuffed up nose. Awesome. I shall be treating this aggressively for the next five days. So much for my "vacation."

Fortunately I have plenty to do: lots of books to read, fingerless mitten to finish knitting, house paperwork to organize, and maybe even writing to do, too.

I have been cooking quite a bit this week and finally got around to taking a few pictures. Last night I made an orzo salad, here is the mis en place for that, just before it was all stirred in. Note presence of incredibly sharp Henckels knife. Never take your eyes off the knife, is what I learned the hard way a couple weeks ago.

A couple of days ago I also went for a little walk and took some pictures:

+ rapidly melting snow on the softball field. Kids were desperately trying to sled down the hill from the road to the field.

+ dead blackberries dusted with very cold, fluffy snowflakes

+ slippery intersection

Today we took a drive up to the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula. It was cloudy and foggy, so we couldn't see too much beyond the choppy waves that filled the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Had it been clear, we would have been able to see Victoria! Ah well.

We visited the Dungeness National Wildlife Preserve, and while walking through the woods toward the beach, came across four deer in the path. They weren't too timid, but weren't tame either. It was impossible to photograph them; we couldn't get too close and the woods have a tendency to be dim no matter what.

Anyway, I did take lots of other pictures.

Brian is in SF now, checking into his hotel and then going to dinner with friends in the east bay. Is it dumb that I miss him? I don't know. Whatever, he's having fun, so that's great.

Anyway today was nice, very sunny. I didn't do much, in fact I didn't get any housework done, oops. Fortunately the house is already in pretty good shape. I went on an hour-long walk and took some photos.

Went grocery shopping after that, most notably purchased a large white head of garlic, the item that Brian cannot eat, so I figured I may as well enjoy it while I can. I will probably roast some cloves tomorrow with some potatoes or just add it to a tomato sauce or something. For dinner tonight I made a big salad, and heated up leftover peanut chicken with rice.

I am worried I won't sleep well at all tonight. Times like this I wish I had Ambien or something.

so yeah, it is the suburbs, but it's also free. and quiet. and zzzzz I need a nap.

Got rid of the pink, now it's just dark brown with a few blond streaks. It's still layered, so way longer in the back.

I probably won't do anything else with it for a while. I had a sad goodbye with my hairdresser -- I've been going to her for eight years.



I didn't wear makeup today. I am lazy.

Had a good day today! That Blue Bottle coffee is awesome.

Brian is working late again. So I'll make myself dinner, turn on the Giants game, and pack some boxes.
