4th-Jun-2009 01:33 pm - someday I'll be skinny again
baby
The other night I despaired while attempting to try on various adorable pajamas and nightgowns that once fit me but now look like sausage casing on my body. My legs are enormous. Breastmilk, breastmilk, it's all future breastmilk!! And it's all for her. So, I'm okay with it.

Today I went to Pee in the Pond because ONCE AGAIN I needed a new bra. Ended up with extremely comfortable Spanx brassiere which fastens in the front and is size 38D. Also discovered a marvelous yet obvious invention called the bra back extender. Four dollars and now my prematurely purchased 34Ds won't go to waste.

Oh and I got this adorable and comfortable dress, too. Which naturally needs to be hemmed, but whatever, no rush. I really don't want to shop in any more maternity clothing stores, though. Going to stick with secondhand for the rest of the summer, during which I intend to wear dresses as much as possible especially if this insane heat continues.

My vegetable garden is loving it though. Tomato plants are radiantly green, pea vines are making their way up the lattice frame, radishes need to be picked and sowed again, carrots are bushy and green-topped. Not sure when to pick those. The only plants that seem unable to thrive are the sad cucumbers. Not sure why, they get water every day just like the others.

This morning I dreamed I was standing on the corner of Church and Duboce, crying. Because it was Church and Duboce, but it really wasn't. It was close... but not quite. Something was off. I gazed up the hill looking for the train tunnel, but it wasn't there. I knew what everything was supposed to look like, but it was all wrong. For some reason this made me cry.

From The New York Times March 12, 2009:

For Spring Clothes, a Lost Season?

I highly recommend clicking on the link and reading the reader comments. It's eye-opening. I have severely cut back on my shopping, even though Brian and I are both still working and everything is fine for us, for now. But it just makes sense. We already have pretty healthy savings accounts, we're just making them healthier. If we buy things, they are needs, or at least intelligent wants, like supplies for a vegetable garden, or in my case, maternity clothes. We are making a trip to Value Village this weekend, I hope. I hope Bremerton isn't too picked over.

So in short, no I'm not getting that Burberry coat. Someday! Just not now.

I've been lusting after this light quilted jacket for a while now. I don't know if I'm getting it, or when, but I am stuck on what color would be best. This is something I would want to wear and keep for years.

Crimson

Copper

At the moment, I am burning this candle

It has this really nice currant scent, not overpowering, not cloying, not chemical, but it also fills a room and lingers after the candle has been blown out. These candles are half the cost of Diptyque, but just as good IMO, in that they have really nice scents, and just as importantly, an even, slow burn down the wick, without creating a well of wax in the center of the glass.

I bought this candle online last year at Sephora.com during their 20% off event, which is happening again in a week. I'm getting another Tocca candle (Ydra this time), some Dior eyeshadow, Clinique superdefense moisturizer, and a Bliss blood orange shower gel soap. You're welcome.

Everyone in this house is asleep, except me. Even Kona is back on her bed.

I just ordered this:

It's for exfoliating the face, and has received rave reviews everywhere. I bought it for 20% off from saks.com, plus no sales tax, plus free shipping. I hope they never open a Saks Fifth Ave in my state...

Extra bonus: it doubles as a "marital aid" if you know what I mean and I think you do.

I've been thinking about getting a pendant for this chain necklace. I wanted something pretty big and bold. Everything I liked, online and in person, was over a hundred dollars, and I just couldn't see myself doing that.

While we were downtown getting coffee today, I went into a little bead shop and found out that for about $25, I could buy a clasp and a "donut" stone, and just make it myself. The silver clasp they sold matched my necklace so well it looks like they're made for one another. And I got two donuts, one rose quartz and one aqua green/blue, so I can switch it up whenever. I can't believe I had just tried on something much less suitable that cost $150.

That same shop is where I bought the cord and findings for making a necklace for my little gold bar last year. Maybe I should start making my own jewelry more often. It's certainly cheaper, and fun, and I can wear things that are totally unique. No offense intended, but Tiffany silver hearts are so ubiquitous and overdone not to mention counterfeited -- the boring white tee and khakis of jewelry.

Anyway. Off to watch the ballgame. Go Phillies.

This weekend has been nice and chill, and I have actually finally done some writing. BRENNA: care to read a couple pages next week? lol :D

Yesterday we went to Macy's to take advantage of the mattress sale. Got a beautiful firm Serta queen for $619 -- allegedly MSRP is $1800, but I never know whether to believe those things. I do know it's a gorgeous mattress and will take the place of my old Serta, that shall take up residence in the guest room.

Whenever I feel like maybe I spend too much money on handbags, I visit Chanel or Hermes forums and read about girls who own several quilted flap bags, at $2800 a pop, or three or four Hermes bags at $6000 each. Ah, perspective.

Anyway speaking of that, my final beauty for the next twelve months is on a UPS vehicle headed my way. It's a black tote, simple and classic and perfect for any occasion requiring a black bag that holds a lot of stuff. Then like I said, I'm done. Our house needs bookshelves and someday bamboo flooring, so no more buying prezzies for myself for a while.

Brian and I talked to a lady we met on the street today who was training her dogs in agility. She actually worked with Kona a little bit and got her to behave. As I suspected, it's us who don't know what we are doing. We need to show more consistency and discipline with her. And she needs a choke chain, pronto.

It would be so cool if she did agility though. She is well-suited for it.
